The YAI Network at a Glance

• The YAI Network is a group of seven not-for-profit health and human services agencies that provide a comprehensive array of programs for people with developmental and learning disabilities and their families.

• YAI/National Institute for People with Disabilies, our flagship agency, was founded in 1957 as the Young Adult Institute. The organization later changed its name since it was serving people through all life cycles — infancy through senior years. Currently, the YAI Network has more than 450 community-based programs, serving more than 20,000 individuals with disabilities and their families throughout the New York metropolitan area, including Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Orange,  Sullivan, Dutchess and Ulster counties, and New Jersey, as well as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The YAI Network is recognized nationally for its conferences, training seminars and publications.

• The YAI Network opens doors for people with developmental and learning disabilities and keeps families together. The member agencies in the Network are:

• Rockland County Association for the Learning Disabled
• National Institute for People with Disabilities of New Jersey

Through its programs and services the YAI Network:

• gives parents hope with early intervention and children’s services
• keeps families together with family support services
• trains and places people with disabilities in jobs
• provides dignified homes through residential services
• builds on each person’s abilities through day and evening programs
• promotes inclusion, socialization, fun and friendship with recreation and camping
• provides caring, high quality treatment through specialized health care
• provides state-of-the-art training for professionals, families and individuals at local, national and international levels
