Endowment

An endowment provides vital support for current programs, emergency needs, and new endeavors, while also serving as the foundation for the future of the organization. Donors may contribute to the general endowment or establish a named endowment fund to ensure permanent support for a specific program and leave a lasting legacy at the YAI Network. 

The YAI Network Endowment Fund will be managed in accordance with the financial policies established by the Board of Trustees. The overall investment strategy for the endowment assets is to maximize long-term capital appreciation and to provide annual income to support the organization’s activities. On an annual basis, the YAI Network will calculate the spendable income available for the next fiscal year based on a 5% spending rate of the three-year average market value of pooled assets.

In an effort to contain endowment management costs and maintain a meaningful level of funding, the YAI Network requires that named endowment funds be created with a gift of at least $50,000. This minimum can be fulfilled over a five-year period and additional gifts may be made to augment the fund at any time. In the event that the minimum level of commitment cannot be reached, the gift will be deposited into the general endowment fund.

The YAI Network Development Office will provide named endowment donors with annual reports about the use and financial status of the fund.

Endowment gifts can be made to the following Funds:

Program Endowment Fund

Endowed programs may be established with a minimum gift of $1,000,000 for new programs and $100,000 for existing programs. (Funding levels vary by program and will be determined on a case by case basis.)

Facility Endowment Fund

Endowed facilities may be established with a minimum gift of $500,000 for existing non-residential facilities, and $100,000 for existing residential facilities. (Funding levels vary by non-residential facility and will be determined on a case by case basis.)

Staff Scholarship Endowment Fund

Endowed staff scholarships may be established with a minimum gift of $50,000.

General Endowment Fund

Resources from the General Endowment fund provide funding for the enhanced programs/services and the advancement of the overall mission of the YAI Network.
