13th Street Gallery Group

A heart painted by the 13th street Gallery Group

Staff at YAI/NIPD's Manhattan Day Services created the 13th Street Gallery Group to give participants the opportunity to express themselves artistically with professional art materials.

The group began in March 2006, with a focus on drawing and painting, Gallery One and Gallery Two, and has since expanded to other media such as photography, Gallery Three. The group meets once a week for about an hour and participants are encouraged to express themselves freely with minimal prompting from staff.

Each week Gallery Group staff ask for different volunteers to participate in the group, ensuring a varied art experience for staff and participants. Artwork from the group has been shown in Manhattan and has been featured on YAI’s holiday cards.
