YAI supports the #bFair2DirectCare Campaign and its move to encourage legislators to send a letter to Governor Cuomo urging him to include $45 million in his Executive Budget Proposal as a first step toward providing a living wage for our staff who support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

A letter was sent to every member of the New York State Senate and Assembly urging them to write to the Governor regarding this issue. Here are two sample letters that were provided to the members of the legislature to either send to the Governor or use as models for their own letter.

YAI will join IAC members in follow-up with local legislators and urge them to write the Governor. We encourage our staff, the people we support and their families to contact legislators in their home and/or program districts. Tell them that you are following up on a request from the #bFair2DirectCare Coalition that they write to the Governor urging him to include funding to increase the salaries of Direct Support Professionals (attached are three flyers that provide additional details).  Ask if they have taken the action or do they need to have the request and sample letters resent.

We've also shared a letter designed for DSPs to send to the Governor, urging him to support this critical funding. It's time for New York State to #bFair2DirectCare.
