Thanksgiving is almost here and the YAI Network’s Tiffany Place residence in Brooklyn has much to be thankful for this year!

Thanks to New York State Assemblywoman Joan Millman, who secured a $50,000 grant, much-needed lift and care systems were installed throughout the residence. These systems enable staff to safely and comfortably transfer residents, many of whom use wheelchairs, to beds or shower chairs with dignity and ease.  Much to celebrate, indeed!

Assemblywoman Millman, who first visited Tiffany Place in March 2009, recently returned to the residence for a joyous ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate with residents and staff.

“When I first visited last year, staff here spoke with me about the need for this equipment,” said Assemblywoman Millman. “The impact of this small contribution is significant.”

"YAI is extremely grateful for support from local government officials and proud of our growing partnership with Assemblywoman Millman,” said Chief Operating Officer Thomas A. Dern. “Her recognition and advocacy of YAI’s commitment to serving people with disabilities plays a critical role in our future.”

“The equipment will make quite a difference in the quality of life of our consumers as well as the work life of our staff,” said Fred Feibusch, Senior Director of YAI Residential Services.

At the ceremony, Tiffany Place residents enthusiastically presented Assemblywoman Millman with warm words of thanks as well as a framed work of art created by one of the residents.

“I need the lift just to help me get from my wheelchair to my bed,” said resident Jonathan. “I am so thankful for this generous gift.”

“As our population ages, more health and mobility issues arise, but having this equipment here reduces physical strain for everyone. It’s making a big difference in people’s quality of life,” said Catrin Morgan, Senior Supervisor.

Tiffany Place staff also recognized the long-term impact of the specialized equipment throughout the house. “The lift systems help relieve physical stress on the staff who frequently lift and transfer,” said Direct Service Professional Melvin Gravenhise. “It’s a real blessing for Assemblywoman Millman to assist us in this way.”

Beaming with pride, Assemblywoman Millman was met with resounding applause as she cut the bright red ribbon that adorned one of the home’s lift and care systems. “It’s an honor to be affiliated with YAI and I’m so pleased to contribute to the tremendous work being done.”
