YAI's Independent Living Program (ILP) is a 26 week course which provides the opportunity for adults, 18 years of age and older, to learn and develop in a group setting. Sessions focus on judgment, decision making, risk-taking, recognizing strengths, problem-solving, self-esteem, and self-advocacy. Weekly topics include money management, community safety, self-care, friendships, and relationships. 

The course runs one day a week in the late afternoon to the early evening for two hours, a light snack is provided. ILP is a 26 week course that includes topics such as: 

  • budgeting
  • nutrition & kitchen safety
  • decision making 
  • problem solving
  • community & internet safety 
  • stress management
  • and other topics to help participants make strides towards independence
