YAI's Independent Living Skills Program (ILSP) is a series of 12-week group sessions, providing the opportunity for adults, 18 or older, to learn and develop skills in a group setting. Sessions focus on judgment, decision making, risk-taking, recognizing strengths, problem-solving, self-esteem, and self-advocacy. Weekly topics include money management, community safety, self-care, friendships, and relationships.

The course runs once a week in the late afternoon to the early evening for two an a half hours, a light snack is provided. The course covers topics such as: 

  • budgeting
  • nutrition & kitchen safety
  • decision making 
  • problem solving
  • community & internet safety 
  • stress management
  • and other topics to help participants make strides towards independence

Registration is required by submitting the application form, including supporting documentation (see application for more details).
