Project GROW provides workshops on a variety of topics to support parents and unpaid caregivers (i.e.: siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles) of children and adults with developmental disabilities who are living at home. Sessions are aimed to educate caregivers on a variety of topics like: 

  • Surviving the Break: Creative activities and strategies to keep your child engaged and productive during school or program breaks 

  • Behavior Management 101: Top tricks and tips to manage challenging behaviors from YAI’s signature Project GROW curriculum 

  • Preparing for Changes: Techniques to best prepare your child for daily transitions and big life changes 

  • Top 10: Resources that are available in the community to persons with developmental disabilities
  • Transition to Adulthood: A discussion of the many different aspects and challenges of parenting a young adult who is becoming more independent
  • Strengthening Social Independence: Explains structured and unstructured socialization opportunities, techniques for encouraging socialization, and how to choose appropriate socialization groups

Groups take place in Staten Island at different community sites. Pre-registration is required. Once registered, caregivers can choose how many and which workshops they want to attend.
