Day Hab Without Walls offers individualized and group activities designed to teach life and community safety skills, build relationships, promote independence, provides volunteer opportunities, and vocational skill building. The focus is on each person's strengths while participating in the larger community. 21+

This program prepares participants for competitive employment through pre-vocational and day habilitation internships and volunteer opportunities at various sites throughout the community. Job coaches provide participants with on-site support to ensure success.

The Pre-Vocational Program provides services to people who at some point would like employment. The program focuses on partcipants' employability and socialization skills by introducing them them to various internships and volunteer sites.

The Community Based Pre-vocational Program provides support in the development of work skills through training, volunteer opportunities, and internships in non profit & for profit environments. The objective is to move towards obtaining and retaining employment.

How to refer to Day Hab: 

The person must have OPWDD and Waiver eligibility. They must also have a CM. Once you have established that they have this start on the following script.  

  1. Describe both kinds of Day Hab.  

  1. Are you able to travel independently 

  1. If yes, talk to them about Day Hab WOW. If they want this, give them the WOW contact.  

  1. If no, talk to them about traditional Day Hab. Give them the Day Hab contact. 

  1. Are you interested in gaining skills around employment?  

  1. If yes, go to the How to Refer to Employment section/to the SEMP and Pre Voc services to see if they are a good fit for one of these programs.

Without Walls (WOW) is an art program that provides opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in New York City to channel their creativity and become working artists.

With the support of artist mentors, WOW artists create work based on their unique interests. WOW artists enhance their skills, develop their careers, and experience New York's art scene.
