Everything You Need to Know About Sexual Consent Assessment for Adults With I/DD
This course qualifies for 5 SW CE contact hours*.
What does “consent” mean for people with I/DD? How can staff support someone to get ready to take the assessment? Who can/should do the assessment? What exactly is assessed? How is the assessment done? These questions and many more will be answered in this training.
Everyone has the need to love and be loved. People with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) historically have been seen as either asexual or sexual deviants. Like many adults, adults with I/DD have the desire to have fulfilling sexual lives. The penal laws in many states require that sexual activity needs to be consenting by the parties involved. This training will explore the consent assessment created and used by YAI. Attendees will understand the two types of consents needed, know what questions to ask, practice facilitating interviewing sessions, and learn how to provide training for people who are interested in becoming sexually consenting.
