Practical Strategies for Working With People With I/DD and Alzheimer’s Disease
This training course will equip the attendee with strategies for working with people with I/DD who are also exhibiting symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Changes in personality, communication, and behavior usually occur, which can be very challenging for support professionals. Specific techniques are discussed to help the person to age in place and to live a full life as they progress through the disease.
At the end of this course, attendees will:
- Understand Alzheimer’s disease and dementia and how they may manifest in people with I/DD
- Recognize changes and adjust programming, as necessary
- Modify environment and goals to better support the person
- Gain an understanding of how to manage challenging behaviors that are a result of the diagnosis
- Be equipped with quality activity options to encourage engagement

The New York State Education Department’s State Board for Social Work requires all registrants to attend the entire training to receive the Social Work CE hours.
If you are not licensed in New York, please check with your state to determine if these credits will be accepted for licensing renewal.
If a cancellation is received 14 days prior to a scheduled training, a refund will be provided. Participants who cancel their enrollment less than 14 days but more than 5 days prior to a training will not be refunded but given credit toward a future training. Cancellation less than 5 days prior will result in no refund or credit.
No credit or refund will be provided if a registered participant does not attend a training.
YAI Knowledge reserves the right to cancel a training due to low enrollment numbers. Registrants will be notified at least two business days prior to the scheduled training.
