Meet Soraya Dauhin

When Leonid Fish and his wife Maya Anbinder set a goal of enjoying more community events, Soraya Dauphin, a Community Habilitation Specialist in Brooklyn, sprung into action.

When they decided on a free Good Morning America Concert featuring Blink-182 in Central Park, Soraya was on board. “I thought, ‘Why not?’” she said. “They really wanted to do this, so let’s do it.”

She left her home at 2 a.m. on July 1 and got to their home by 3 a.m. to pick them up. “When I got there, they were awake, but they weren’t ready yet,” Soraya said. They took the subway and eventually arrived at Central Park around 6 a.m.

“I really liked the way that Soraya made this happen,” Maya said. “The concert was great. There were lots of people there.”

Six months after accepting a part-time position with YAI’s Community Habilitation Program, Soraya became a full-time employee. While also working toward her bachelor’s degree at Long Island University, she didn’t mind going the extra hour to support Leonid and Maya in enjoying the concert. “They appreciate me waking up early and helping get them ready so we could go to the concert,” Soraya said. “They really had fun.”

“The work is very rewarding,” she added. “I love working with the people I support.”
