Laughter Therapist Erika Ruiz presenting on "Emotional Massage" at the Conferencia Latina

This past Saturday, YAI’s 17th Conferencia Latina went virtual for the second year in a row. More than 200 people tuned in to learn more about issues facing the intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) community. The theme of the conference, Sigamos adelante: Nuestro encuentro con la información relevante was about moving forward and sharing relevant information to support people with disabilities and their families. The conference is the only one of its kind held exclusively in Spanish.

One parent who watched the conference shared, “Fue muy instructiva y beneficiosa para nosotros los padres aprender mas. Muchas gracias” (It was very instructive and beneficial for us parents to learn more. Thank you.) The event was emceed by Program Director Rocio Ruiz, who spent hours preparing the conference and booking speakers. This year's lineup included presentations on how to support the emotional health of people with autism through the pandemic; myths and reality of COVID, the pandemic, and the vaccine; and other timely topics. The recording of the conference will be available soon at yai.org/latino.
