On January 26, people at Tarrytown day hab had a Zoom meeting with Katie McGee, a TV personality who has appeared on ABC, CBS, and QVC, among other channels. Since Tarrytown recently opened its art studio and launched its podcast studio, many people are eager to increase their media skills. McGee was able to virtually meet with staff and day hab participants to offer tips on proper camera technique, speaking on camera, on-air presence, and other media-related guidance. The call lasted for two hours and McGee hopes it is the beginning of a longer relationship with YAI.

The day was organized by Ken Reedy, Trainer and Regional Support Supervisor, and longtime friend of McGee.

“I was so excited to be able to set this up,” said Reedy. “The people we support lit up being able to talk with someone who’s had success in media. Katie was wonderful. She was patient, kind, and so respectful.”

The Tarrytown group took McGee on a virtual tour, showing her some of their work from jewelry to movie reviews.

Lavette Poinsette, one of the artists who received pointers from McGee, said, “Meeting with Katie was amazing, and I learned how to be on camera.”

The feeling was mutual. For McGee, interacting with the staff and program participants at Tarrytown was a source of inspiration.

“The passion shown by staff and students is infectious and the products are top notch,” McGee said. “What an honor it was to meet and spend time with so many talented, creative people.”
