The staff at YAI's Kew Gardens day habiliation (day hab) has found success the “old school” way: phone calls to potential donors who have helped them raise more than $2,000 and counting for this year's Central Park Challenge. The personal touch is what has made their fundraising efforts a success, the team said.

“I love what I do and I do it for the people we support at Kew Gardens,” said Lorriane Myers, Direct Support Professional. “If we didn’t have our team and the support of our families and friends, this wouldn’t have been possible. Sometimes people just want to speak to someone as opposed to email or social media. It’s a lot more rewarding.”

“You build that bond and trust and I think that has helped in our fundraising efforts, especially during a pandemic,” said Karen Perez, Assistant Supervisor.

The day hab hopes to use the funds to buy smart TVs, art supplies, and plant lights for the indoor garden they are working to grow.
