With luck on his side, Larry Basselini’s dream to one day tour his favorite radio station finally came true. The YAI resident and 100.7 WHUD’s biggest fan visited the station in October and had a chance to meet his favorite DJs and learn what it takes to put on a show.

Basselini has had a longstanding relationship with the station and has been advocating to tour the facility since before the pandemic. With the help of staff at the residence, his persistence finally paid off.

“I liked everything about the tour and liked getting the souvenirs,” said Basselini. Some of the goodies he walked away with included a staff t-shirt with the radio station’s logo on it and a tote bag.

The radio enthusiast was all smiles as the staff guided him through the studio and gave him free rein of the station, showing him the computer room and equipment space. His favorite DJ, Tom Furci joined him on the tour and Therese, another DJ, gave a shoutout to Basselini's residence and took song requests.

"Everyone made him feel exceptionally special that day,” said Leonard Salvatore, a Community Habilitation Specialist who works closely with Basselini and who accompanied him during the visit. “He enjoyed the camaraderie of the staff at the station. Larry loves speaking to people, especially people who will keep him in conversation.

Basselini has since made sure to thank WHUD for making him feel like part of the family.
