Six young men who were living at YAI’s former Terrace ICF moved from Manhasset to their forever home in Babylon last month.

“It was a spectacular transition for them and it was really special to see how happy it made them to finally be in a space they can call their own,” said Danielle Scarpitta, Residential Director at Glen Cove IRA.

The new residents celebrated the milestone with a dinner party for their families on the first night in their new home on August 1.

“I love my new home, and I look forward to all of the new experiences I am going to have here,” said Matthew Forte, 27, one of the residents.

The move was long-awaited, and initially delayed due to COVID. The new home consists of six bedrooms, two bathrooms, a common area, and a full kitchen. Additionally, 10 staff who were working with the men at their former residence in Manhasset are continuing to support them in the new space.

“Without the staff that stayed with the men and showed their dedication to that group, their transition wouldn’t have been so smooth,” said Scarpitta. “The staff gave them such a warm welcome and truly made the house a home for everyone.”
