When Wicked: Part One became a big hit in November 2024, the disabled community really loved the authentic portrayal of Elphaba’s sister Nessarose…two times, in fact. For those who haven’t seen Wicked, there’s a flashback sequence at the beginning of the film with a young Nessarose and young Elphaba, setting up what people in this universe believe about the Wizard by means of Elphaba showing a book about the Wizard to her sister. There’s also a bit where Elphaba gets bullied for her skin color and unwillingly uses her powers in response to it, scaring her sister. This second portrayal of Nessarose, by the child actress Cesily Collette Taylor, was one of the standout parts of the movie, not only due to the representation, but due to how adorable the actress is. Her popularity lead to something amazing for someone with a disability…Cesily has been invited to many events and awards shows!

Whenever Cesily goes to these events, you best believe that all eyes are on her! Lots of pictures are taken of her, the internet finds it adorable, she sees many famous celebrities like Jack Black and the girl group KATSEYE, and she always has the best time at the events, according to her parents running her social media account.

This all started during awards season, with her attending the Golden Globes. Ever since then, she’s been invited to not only other awards shows such as the Kids’ Choice Awards, but movie premieres as well! She’s been to premieres for Disney films such as Freakier Friday and Elio, and she also made an appearance at OzCon, a convention in Burbank devoted to The Wizard of Oz and the works created from it.

It’s great to see a disabled person out there living their best life after a Hollywood movie skyrocketed their fame. Usually, people don’t enjoy the chaos that comes with newfound fame, but based on Cesily’s experiences recounted by her parents, it’s clear that she’s enjoying it. And in an industry where there can be judgmental people, this is refreshing.

Hopefully, due to Cesily doing all of these activities, we can see other disabled celebrities gain attention in a positive light at public events. I wish that other celebrities with disabilities could be as loved as Cesily is. Maybe someday, they’ll be treated like nondisabled celebrities—like how Cecily is being treated.
