JULY 19th, 2025 the temperature ranged from 80 to 90 degrees in the community of East Harlem. The event took place at ARTSPACE, located at 99th Street between Second and Third Avenue. On that day “Level the Curve” hosted their annual arts and entertainment show.
What is Artspace? According to their website: “El Barrio’s Artspace PS109 is a community- driven El Barrio’s Artspace PS109 is a community-driven El Barrio’s Artspace PS109 is a community-driven project which has transformed an abandoned public school building in East Harlem into an arts facility with 89 units of affordable live/work housing for artists and their families and 10,000 square feet of complementary space for arts organizations.”
Right location, a great place to promote their work! That day attendees saw their paintings, sculptures, and a variety of products, from pencils/pens to t shirts. People of all nationalities were there, including Asians, African-Americans, Latinos, Jews, Italians, and Irish all promoting their work. Everyone was supportive, giving each other pats on the back, holding doors for people using wheelchairs, and making sure there was plenty of food for everyone!
As they proudly say on their flyer “Level the Curve” Accessible by Design. Empowering By Nature!” Wow their work should be at Metropolitan Museum of Art, or The Museum of Natural History! When you see you’ll agree.
