In the 1993 television show "The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers," two characters, Tommy Oliver, portrayed by Jason David Frank, and Kimberly Hart, portrayed by Amy Jo Johnson, began to develop a romantic relationship.

In Season 1, Kimberly debuted alongside the other four rangers. Tommy Oliver was introduced when he was captured and turned evil. A few episodes later, he turned good and became the sixth ranger. Kimberly and Tommy developed a relationship, appearing in several episodes together. For example, they shared their first kiss in episode 35, went on their first date in Season 2, episode 19, and in Season 3, episode 21, Tommy carried Kimberly while rescuing her.

The fans enjoyed them being a couple for 3 seasons, and were talking a lot about those two, until halfway through season 3, episode 25. Amy Jo Johnson departed from the power rangers' franchise, so Kimberly left the team to chase her gymnastic career which meant the couple was separated. In season 4 she wrote a letter to Tommy, that ended the relationship of those two characters because they were too far away from each other. Amy and Jason came back together in cameo roles in a power rangers reboot movie in 2017, after that they joined various events like the Planet comic con 2018, where Jason David Frank taught Amy Jo Johnson on how to break a board, and they did some Q&A at the comic con 2019.

On November 19, 2022, Jason David Frank committed suicide due to his depression and mental health issues. This news was shocking to his fans and deeply affected Amy, who lost a dear friend. In his memory, she composed a tribute song for him.

A year after Jason’s death, Amy made a four issue comic book series as part of the 30th Anniversary of the power rangers' franchise. The “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers the Return” took place in an alternate timeline where Kimberly and Tommy were still a couple and then a few years later they got married and had a child of their own who was all grown up 30 years later. Despite the passing of Jason David Frank, fans continue to love him for being a good Power Ranger and martial artist, alongside Amy Jo Johnson. Hopefully there will be new ways to honor this couple, such as creating new comic book adventures featuring them, as they are considered among the best Power Rangers ever.
