On October 11, 1975, Lorne Michales created and debuted a late-night comedy and variety show called Saturday Night Live. The show was so good, George Carlin was the first host. Throughout the years, different celebrity guests got to host the show on Saturdays and some of them got do some crazy scenarios as well as doing funny stunts and spoof or parody versions of certain tv shows.
Some people enjoyed their favorite celebrities doing some scenes, my favorite celebrity and scene was Eddie Murphy playing Mister Robinson in Mister Robinson’s Neighborhood, a parody version of Mister Roger’s Neighborhood. The thing I most like is the part when he was making weird surprise faces.
Last year, Columbia Pictures made a biography and comedy film of Saturday Night Live which tells the story of how the show began in 1975. While in February of this year during President’s Day Weekend there were three special events. On Friday, February 14, on Peacock there was a Saturday Night Live homecoming concert at Radio City Music Hall with special performances by the Backstreet Boys, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Devo, Bad Bunny, Cher, The B-52s, Snoop Dogg, Bonnie Raitt, and of course Jimmy Fallon, who sang “Soul Man” and was also the host of the concert. The audience even had some celebrities including Steve Martin, Martin Short, Jerry Seinfeld, and Adam Sandler.
On Saturday, February 15, NBC re-aired the first episode of Saturday Night Live as well as a special documentary for music and songs from Saturday Night Live.
And on Sunday, February 16, it was the special event for the 50th anniversary at Rockefeller Center. Every celebrity was there, including again Adam Sandler, Steve Martin, and Martin Short. There were other celebrities like Eddie Murphy, Will Ferell, Tracy Morgan, and Tom Hanks. During the special event, every celebrity that I know was there, enjoying doing some parody versions of certain TV shows and talking about their favorite moments. It was good to see everyone there.
Maybe in the next 25 years or 50 years there might be more excitement about Saturday Night Live and there could be more funny comedy scenes that could make the audiences laugh. Perhaps someone could do Eddie's act of Mister Robinson.
