The Dodgers win! And as the great broadcaster and Hall of Famer Vin Scully might say, “The Los Angeles Dodgers have won the 2025 World Series! They join two other teams, the New York Giants who won back to back World Series in 1921, 1922, and the Cincinnati Reds who won back to back in 1975, 1976.”
The Dodgers won game six 3-to-1, and in extra innings they won game seven with a game-winning home run from catcher Will Smith. LA ended up winning the series 5 – 4.
Which was truly rare is this: the 2025 World Series went seven games. The Dodgers won the last two at the opposing team’s ballpark. This is also pretty rare. Seven games means that the Toronto Blue Jays put up a good fight. Hey, Toronto, be happy: The Blue Jays finished last in their division the previous year, but made the World Series in 2025. Even though they came up short, they made all of Canada proud and happy.
Pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto was named World Series MVP for the Los Angeles Dodgers. So well deserved. Yamamoto finished with an outstanding performance, winning games two, six, and seven. Additionally, he allowed just two earned runs with two walks and 15 strikeouts.
Yamamoto joins Hall of Famers Bob Gibson, who won 3 games in the1967 World Series, Randy Johnson, who won 3 games in the 2001 World Series, and Christy Mathewson who won 3 games in 1905 World Series.
Yamamoto stands 5 feet 10 inches tall, the same height as the great Japanese Ball player Sadaharu Oh, while teammate and fellow countryman Shohei Ohtani is 6 feet 3 inches. Ohtani is “Godzilla,” but in this series, Yamamoto was “King Kong.” As Mr. Miyagi in the “The Karate Kid” would say with pride, “BANZAI!”
