Hewlett resident Shani Chill crossed the finish line of her first New York City Marathon on Nov. 1, completing the 26.2-mile race in 6 hours, 4 minutes and 58 seconds.

Chill said the day was challenging, particularly when she hit what runners often call "the wall" at Mile 15. She pushed through by thinking about the students who inspired her along the way.

"I made it!!" Chill wrote after the race. "The day was tough but when I hit the proverbial wall at Mile 15, I pushed through by thinking about our incredible students."

Although Chill initially described the marathon as her first and last, the experience may have changed her mind.

"Something about the day yesterday - seeing the absolute kindness of New Yorkers — makes me think ... maybe one more time?" she wrote.
