Walking in a neat line, students of NYC Public School 124 in Brooklyn excitedly filed into Class 6 at the New York League for Early Learning (NYL) William O’Connor preschool in Bay Ridge.

Books in-hand, the 4th and 5th graders were ready to read some of their favorite holiday stories to the preschoolers eagerly awaiting them.

The read-along was organized by Jessica Regevik, a teacher at PS 124 who taught at the NYL preschool for seven years. Jessica said the students and teachers at WOC still hold a special place in her heart.

“This is the second year we’ve done this,” said Jessica. “It’s a really good way to reinforce my students’ reading skills, and the younger children love story time.”

Jessica’s students said they got a lot from the event.

“I feel really great to be reading to the kids,” said Nicholas.

“I like doing this because I want to be a Pre-K teacher when I grow up,” said Jacob.

“I like to come here to read to the kids because it makes me feel like I have little brothers and sisters,” said Selena. “I feel really proud to have someone look up to me. I think reading to the kids makes the holidays more special because it’s a wonderful way of telling them that you care for them and wish they have a great holiday.”

The smiles on the faces of the readers and their tiny listeners told a story of their own, confirming that a great time was had by all.
