“I love the holiday party!” said Greta, who resides in a YAI apartment in Brooklyn.

Greta was one of more than 100 guests at the YAI Supportive Living Program’s holiday party, held on December 11 at the Bay Ridge Manor in Brooklyn.

“This party is something that our guys look forward to all year long,” said Lisa Black, Sr. Supervisor of the Supportive Living Program, who helped to coordinate the event. “They decided to use the funds they raised through the Central Park Challenge for this, and they’re very proud they made it happen.”

Guests enjoyed a three-course meal and danced to music spanning four decades, courtesy of the event’s DJs, Fred, who lives in a YAI apartment in Manhattan, and John Veenema, Asst. Supervisor of the Supportive Living Program.

Several residents received awards for achieving new levels of independence, including making it into a supportive apartment, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, weight loss, budgeting and cooking skills.

“Everyone in this room really deserves an award for continuing to work on your goals and reach for your dreams,” said Paula Gibly, Sr. Coordinator of the Supportive Living Program.

A highlight of the event was a special visit from New York State Senator Martin J. Golden of Brooklyn. Senator Golden addressed attendees, sharing words of support and warm holiday wishes for all.

“We are delighted that Senator Golden could attend and we appreciate his support,” said Fred Feibusch, Sr. Director of Residential Services.

As the last pieces of cake were eaten, guests began to gather their coats. Looking around the room, Daniel, who resides in a YAI apartment in Manhattan, smiled widely and said, “Oh yes, it was a great party!”
