Speakers at the NYC Autism Conference on April 28

It was another successful year for YAI virtually hosting the 2021 NYC Autism Conference last week. The event was filled with amazing presenters who shared their perspectives and knowledge with an audience that reached over 450 people throughout the day. Attendees included people with autism, parents, caregivers, and service providers from NYC and beyond, with some tuning in from as far away as California and Texas.

The NYC Council Autism Initiative supports this annual event, allowing YAI to provide hundreds of people each year with valuable information about autism and related services.

Given the challenging times that many parents and caregivers are facing, YAI wanted this year's conference to feature a wide variety of presentations from presenters who are diverse in their perspective and experience. From a conversation about how race, gender, and disability intersect to hearing a man with autism share his story of finding success in adulthood, YAI was able to help audience members fill their knowledge cup for 2021 and beyond.

"For decades YAI has been known for providing accessible information to the community on topics related to autism and I am so proud to be a part of this conference each year,” said Tracy Kernan, conference organizer. “It is important and challenging to bring presenters together who our audience can learn from and relate to, and I believe we achieved that this year and we will continue to strive for this in the future."
