The Legal Aid Society's Civil, Criminal Defense, Juvenile Rights, and Pro Bono practices work tirelessly in and out of the courtroom to defend their clients and dismantle the hidden, systemic barriers that can prevent them from thriving in New York City. Their experienced teams provide comprehensive services, support, and advocacy that protect rights, keep families and communities together, and in many cases, save lives.

Immigration Law Unit Helpline: Helpline staff provide direct assistance and/or referrals on immigration matters. The helpline is open Monday to Fridays from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. Call 844.955.3425.

Access to Benefits Helpline (A2B): A2B is a “one-stop” resource for New Yorkers in need of legal assistance to obtain government benefits. The helpline is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Interpreters are available for all languages. Call 888.663.6880.

A2B staff can assist NYC residents with:

  • HRA public assistance
  • Employment and unemployment benefits matters
  • Issues related to Medicaid/health law
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • Disability and other benefits and issues related to COVID-19
  • Callers in need of disaster relief
